Drinkbot Done (project1_post#6)

Well it's been of a hell of an experience trying to do everything that I set out to do. What did I take away from all of this? Animation is tough and time consuming! In all the shot ended up being 380 frames long and 10 render passes. Over all I am extremely satisfied with what I have been able to accomplish in 9 weeks! I think one of the big things for me in this project was render passes because of the kind of control you are able to get. I used Shake to comp all of the passes together and couldn't have done it with out it.  Below is a breakdown of the different passes and at the bottom a link to the final render.

Drinkbot update (project1_post#5)
Well after being a week behind sechdule and struggling to find the energy and motivation to finish this project and others here is an update. Below are video updates of my progress

Drinkbot has been a huge learning experiance but i am ready for it to be over. I want to move on to something that i feel will be better portfolio peice. Since my last update there has been a lot of changes. I had to Re-rig the robot which in the scope of things was pretty crazy considering that the first time it took me almost a whole day. This time though it only took me around 1 1/2  hour to rig. In contrast to the originally rigging this felt like a huge success to me. Also i rigged each leg sepeartly unlike before in which i did duplicate special for each leg. The Drinkbot has been textured although the textures are not that apperiant besides the coke can.The Matchmoving went pretty well i was able to get a move that sticks. All that is left besides some tweeking to the animation is to light and composite the Bot into the secene. My plan is to have this completed by wednesday this week.

Drinkbot update Midterm (project1_post#4)

My post for this week has come a little later then i usually like to post but i have been extremely busy. I am still working behind schedule but i am finding that is typical with most people's studio projects.

As for the Drinkbot, I think that it is going really well! I always knew animating was difficult but I have gained a new appreciation for it and rigging.  I finished rigging last week and have begun to animate. Also last week I shot the background plate for my project. This weekend i hope to make a lot of progress on all fronts! I still am working on painting some textures but i have my shaders set so I feel that this ok to still be working on it. I plan to be done with texturing soon though. Below is a still frame that I rendered out, along with a comp of the rig, wire frame and finally 175 rendered frames. The renders took about 9min a frame and I even used an HDR but just for reflections. Also I have 2 different shots to choose from for my match move. One with markers and one plate without.
